Unit One Overview:

The first module builds upon the foundation of multiplicative thinking with units started in Grade 2. First, students concentrate on the meaning of multiplication and division and begin developing fluency for learning products involving factors of 2, 3, 4, 5, and 10. The restricted set of facts keeps learning manageable, and also provides enough examples to do one- and two-step word problems and to start measurement problems involving weight, capacity, and time in the second module.

Unit One Learning Targets:

3.OA.1 I understand that the products of whole numbers are the total number of objects when there are equal groups.

3.OA.3 I can solve word problems using multiplication and division within 100 using multiplication and division strategies with and without variables.

3.OA.7 I can fluently multiply and divide within 100, and have memorized products of two one-digit numbers.

3.OA.8 I can solve two-step word problems using all four operations.  I can represent these problems using equations with a letter standing for the unknown quantity.
