Ms. Kasten - Classroom Spotlight

“And now let us believe in a long year that is given to us, new, untouched, full of things that have never been.” ~ Rainer Maria Rilke~

It’s a fresh start for Junior High and Senior High Resource Math classes, as we start our January off with new challenges and new goals. I have challenged my students at the beginning of 2018, to create a goal that they are going to remain accountable for as we finish off the school year. They chose the goal, but it had to be realistic, reachable, and related to school. These goals are becoming their stepping-stones to being better students in my class as well as in their other classes.

The Junior High Resource class has covered many different topics over the last semester including graphing, tetrominoes, tangrams, and conversions. This semester we will cover different topics in the next few months. Spending time learning about ratios, real numbers, coordinate planes as well as many other topics that fill in the gaps of their understanding.

The Senior High Resource class has spent the first semester learning about the different parts to expressions and equations as well as solving them. This semester we will be testing their knowledge of surface area, volume, and different ways to represent data. All of these topics will allow the students to apply real world examples to their learning.

I look forward to many new adventures that await us this semester as we take steps towards our goals and towards our future.
