FJH Spelling Bee Champion!

Congratulations to Natalie Mealing (6th grade) for her first place finish in the Forreston Junior High Spelling Bee and to the runner up, Taylor Miller (8th grade)!

Forreston Junior High School held its annual spelling bee on Friday, January 27, 2017.  Students, parents, and staff watched as the qualifiers from the Language Arts classes of Mrs. Griseta, Mrs. Leddy, and Mrs. Conerton competed for the title of top speller.  Thrity-three students from sixth, seventh and eighth grades took part in the competition.

Natalie Mealing and Taylor Miller battled to earn the first and second place honors respectively.  Sixth grader Natalie is the daughter of Leon Mealing and Stephanie Fadden of Forreston.  Taylor, an eighth grader, is the daughter of Tony and Toni Miller of German Valley.  After eleven total rounds and two rounds of head-to-head competition, Natalie spelled the words pilgrimages and habanero to earn the championship medal.  Taylor earned the runner-up spot after correctly spelling conflagration but misspelling legitimately.

Natalie will compete in the Lee/Ogle/Whiteside County Regional Spelling Bee held at Dixon High School on Thursday, February 23, 2017 at 10:00 a.m.  Taylor, as runner-up in the school bee, will be an alternate for the Regional Bee.  Congratulations to all of the students who competed in the bee and good luck to Natalie and Taylor as they represent Forreston Jr./Sr. High School in the Regional Bee in Dixon.
